Can I Take Ozempic or Wegovy While Breastfeeding or Pregnant?

GLP-1 medications are not recommended during pregnancy. Animal studies show potential fetal risk and Novo Nordisk recommends stopping semaglutide at least two months before planned conception. Women stopping GLP-1 medications for pregnancy may be entering pregnancy with depleted micronutrient stores, particularly folate, iron, and B vitamins, that are critical for fetal development and should be replenished before conception. Three of the eight TAKE Essentials are not suitable if you are pregnant, nursing, or trying to conceive, and they are named below.

Can I take Ozempic or Wegovy while breastfeeding or pregnant?

This is one of the most frequently asked questions in GLP-1 patient communities and one where clinical guidance is consistent. The nutritional implications for women who stop GLP-1 treatment during pregnancy or breastfeeding are worth understanding.

Three Essentials Are Not Suitable

TAKE Complete. Our daily multivitamin contains saw palmetto inside its 170mg Health Support blend. Saw palmetto is studied for its effect on 5-alpha reductase and hormone pathways, and products containing it are not suitable during pregnancy, while nursing, or while trying to conceive. If you are preparing for pregnancy, the right multivitamin is a dedicated prenatal formula from your provider, not TAKE Complete. We are saying this first because Complete is the product you are most likely to be taking.

TAKE Rest. Contains St. John's Wort, 5-HTP and L-Tryptophan. It is not suitable during pregnancy, while nursing, or while trying to conceive. St. John's Wort can also reduce the effectiveness of hormonal contraception, which matters if you are avoiding pregnancy while on a GLP-1 medication. It interacts with antidepressants as well, where combining them carries a risk of serotonin syndrome. If you take, or are considering, an antidepressant before or after birth, do not take Rest without speaking to your prescriber.

TAKE Regrowth. Contains saw palmetto, which is studied for its effect on 5-alpha reductase and hormone pathways. It is not suitable during pregnancy, while nursing, or while trying to conceive. Regrowth also contains soybean germ extract and wheat germ extract, which matters if you avoid either.

We would rather lose the sale than have you take something that works against your circumstances.

The official position

Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, and Zepbound are not recommended during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown potential risks to fetal development and Novo Nordisk recommends stopping semaglutide at least two months before a planned pregnancy. For breastfeeding, it is not known whether semaglutide or tirzepatide passes into human breast milk. Most guidelines recommend against using GLP-1 medications while breastfeeding.

The importance of nutritional repletion before pregnancy

Women stopping GLP-1 medications in preparation for pregnancy should prioritize rebuilding nutritional stores in the months between stopping medication and conceiving. This is particularly important for folate (B9), which is critical for neural tube development in the first weeks of pregnancy, often before pregnancy is confirmed.

That rebuilding is a conversation for your provider rather than a supplement you choose for yourself, and it is the reason the warning above sits at the top of this page rather than the bottom. A prenatal formula is designed for exactly this period. TAKE Complete is not.

Important note

TAKE Essentials are formulated as dietary supplements for adults, and TAKE Regrowth is a topical cosmetic rather than a supplement.
